Finding The Perfect Things in Life

None of us are perfect, but we need to find the things in our life that are.  A little over sixteen years ago I got pregnant.  If you read my last post, you know I’m a single mom.  Digging deeper into the story, I was dating my son’s father for over a year, got pregnant and he broke up with me. I spent 9 months of my pregnancy alone, walking the beach in Marina del Rey, Ca. with my dog Catch.  Feeling like each and every neighbor had thoughts of judgment. Emotionally, it was one of the hardest times in my life.  I had no family in Calif., and a weak support system.  ” It was a dark place.”

I had a series of toxic relationships and was now on my way to be a mom.  I had to work through the negative voices in my head and find inner strength to rise above them. I knew I needed to love who I was and find joy and purpose in my situation.  In today’s society it’s so easy to beat ourselves up and compare our lives to others.  I remember thinking how lucky the mom’s were who had “good” husbands.  Their lives looked so perfect.

When my OB said ” the womb-life and the first three years of life set the entire life’s course of a child”, I had a revelation. At that moment, I stopped the noise. This was not about me.  I was on a mission to succeed for my child.  I read every book I could on becoming a consciousensious mother so that I could set the foundation for life- long health and happiness in my son.  I started practicing Kundalini yoga and meditation with Gurmukh Khalsa at the Golden Bridge in Los Angeles.  I did daily mudras and mantras, listened to classical music, slugged fresh juices and hiked the Santa Monica mountains.  I embraced being a mom.  I may not be perfect, but when I look at my son, I know I got something in my life perfectly right.  He is the light in my life.

Today some of you will be celebrating, some reflecting.  Whatever the case, it’s a day to be thankful for what we had or have and the sacrifices that the remarkable woman called ” Mom” made for you.

I want to wish every mother a Happy Mother’s Day!

Heat It Up With Horny Goat Weed

A few days ago an old friend popped up on Facebook, Dr. James Mechino. It had been such a long time since I last saw this guy that I couldn’t remember if I had dated him or if he wrote for my father’s fitness magazine. What I did remember is that Jim is an incredible nutritionist, and handsome to boot.

Canadian born, he is a doctor of chiropractic, holds a master’s degree in science, with specialties in nutrition and biology, and holds several other medical credentials. I asked Jim if he would be interested in guest blogging for Girls Unedited. I figured who better to educate my readers on topics such as sports nutrition, endurance, hair loss, libido… The stars must have been aligned because he agreed to my request.

Great to have a guy like Dr. J ( No comparison to the basketball great although he does have some awesome slam junks).  Years ago when we first met, he was on the forefront of health and is still leading the way. He’s a man ahead of his game.

Our first topic is Libido with a capital L.  L as in LOVE, LUST, LUCKY….. LORRAINE. Ha!  On a serious note, I was fascinated by a new product Jim developed called SensaGen.  Some say it’s the new Viagra.

If you’re looking to take your “penis off pause,”  or just want to turn the heat up, keep reading! Dr. Mechino tells why these 6 herbs will be your new best friend.

  • Tribulus Terrestris or Puncture Vine
Puncture Vine has been used for centuries to stimulate libido for both men and women. It increases the release of nitric oxide from blood vessels and nerves that supply blood flow to the penis and clitoris. That means more engorgement ( great word) and you know what that means, guys: firmer, longer lasting erections. NICE!! Women benefit too, we get increased sensitivity down below.  Double Nice!
  • Muira Puama or Potency Wood
This comes from a root of tropical plants in Brazil. It can increase sexual potency and has been shown to reverse low libido and erectile dysfunction problems within two weeks. Women who take Potency Wood (I love that name!) improve their sex drives. That means more sexual desire, more sex, more fantasies and more and better orgasms. YES! YES!
  • Damiana or Tunera Aphrodisiaca
Forget “the new world,” Damiana may be the greatest discovery Europeans made when they first landed in Central and South America. It increases genital sensitivity and arousal capabilities. They swear by it in Holland! Yowza!!
  • Epimedium aka Horny Goat Weed
Horny Goat Weed is a real thing! It’s not a stoner joke or an urban legend, it’s the real deal. It got it’s name when Chinese farmers notice that it made their Goats frisky.  Scientists don’t know exactly how it works, but it consistently boosts desire, helps with erectile dysfunction and even fights fatigue. It’s a multi-tasker!
  • Avena Sativa or Wild Oat
Wild Oat improves nerves so you get more feeling and more pleasure. This herb helps increase orgasms, need I say more?
  • Maca or Lepidium Meyennii Walp
Maca comes from Peru and stimulates libido. They call this one the Female Viagra, but men get a nice libido boost from it, too.  Sounds like a good “cock”-tail party to me!

According to Dr. J, these herbs are safe. They have a long track record – in some case stretching back hundreds of years – and modern day clinical trials to back them up. If you have other health stuff going on, check in with your doctor. We don’t want to cause conflicts with any medications or other MD directives. But if you’re healthy and looking for a boost, ya might want to give it a try!

Why Girls Love Green

Women love seeing men in army green.

What an appropriate day to talk about GREEN. For those who are Irish, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! May the luck of the Irish fill your day as we celebrate the Patron Saint of Ireland once again.

The Chicago River won’t be the only thing turning green today. Around the world there millions of glasses of green beer will be sold,  there will be green eggs, green popcorn, green cotton candy, shamrock shakes, green desserts of all kinds… the list goes on.

Decoding the Allure

Whether you’re Irish or not, today is a fun day of celebration and nobody celebrates like the Irish. We love to drink and have a good time.  I’ve even heard the sales for ginger wigs are higher then ever this year. Am I in style or what?!  I’m a natural red head and LOVE green. Whoohoo!

I recently read an article in GQ saying that army green is trending. It was never not trending in my book. There’s something about a guy wearing army green that’s super sexy.  There was a study done by the University of Southampton that showed women are highly attracted to military men. When we think of a military guy with think:  sexy, strong, masculine, heroic.

I blame Cinderella on the allure of heroic men. A large percentage of us are still looking for our Prince Charming. As you know from the book Men are from Mars Women are from Venus, the female mind is a 360 from the male mind.

So why not, try something new. Get out of the black, blue, grey box and buy something green.  Subliminally, there’s a definite association with a sexy, strong, masculine guy and army green. I say army green is a CLASSIC!  No closet should be without at least one army green garment.

Paul Roustan does amazing body painting on girls -- she;s not wearing a wet suit, that's paint!

Body Painting goes Wet & Wild

Body Painting at its best!  I am so excited to show off my friend Paul Roustan’s wet suit video. Paul and I met about two years ago, in a very unusual way.

I was in the hospital, recovering from a surgery, around three a.m. a cute guy by the name of Patrick came to my room to do an ultra sound on my leg. He glanced over at my table and saw a book I was reading called “Blogging for Dummies.”

In spite of all the drugs, I remember him saying “You need to meet my buddy Paul, he’s an amazing body painter… I think he can help you.” I took Paul’s contact information and soon after my return home, I called Paul and we became friends.

Paul is without a doubt, one of the best artists I know. Besides talent, he is humble and caring. I love this guy! What a lucky wife he has.

L: Painting naked girls is a guy’s dream job – tell us how you got here?

P: I’ve always had a passion for drawing people since as early as I could remember. I never cared much for landscapes or backgrounds. As an early teen, I would sit at libraries and look for books that had pictures of naked people (Biology books, fine art books, etc). I would copy the pictures as drawings, and then change the drawings to look like faces so I wouldn’t get in trouble for drawing naked people.

Fast forward to age 25, I was working for an adult magazine as an editorial illustrator and I was also airbrushing t-shirts on the side. It was a dream to be paid doing what I had always loved, drawing naked people.

I ran the idea past the editors of body painting one of the models for the magazine’s photo spreads. They said, “Let’s give it a shot!” After that first effort, I was hooked. It was like I had found what I was meant to do. And I haven’t stopped since, now twelve years later.

L: I’m sure I have a lot of readers who would like to work with women – what would you say is the biggest lesson you have learned about women?

P: I have tremendous respect for women. Raised predominantly by my sister and mother, and now married with two daughters, I am more comfortable around women. I am a feminist for sure.

I paint people of all shapes, sizes, genders, ethnicities. I’ve seen it all. But, regarding women, some viewers of my work occasionally hate on the model’s look: “She’s too fat!”, “She’s too Skinny!”, “Her boobs are too small!”, “That’s not what a real woman looks like!”, “Why don’t you paint more ‘REAL’ looking models?” etc.

Some of the “flawless” models I collaborate with work extremely hard to look like they do. And they are often condemned for not being a “real representation of women”. But they ARE real women, not objects. They have feelings.

With every type of model, this is who they are, what they look like, and I celebrate all of them in my work. After spending hours painting them, in such a unique intimate setting, each model ultimately becomes a friend. The negative criticism they receive affects me personally.

I’ve learned that women endure a lot based on their looks. People need to judge less and appreciate more. They are mothers, daughters, sisters. I’ve painted artists, teachers, philanthropists, scientists, CEOs, and more. They represent every facet of life. They create life. They are important, and should be valued as such. They put themselves out there, for fun, for art, for empowerment, not to be shamed. They have more “balls” than most men any day.  I LOVE women and I appreciate the hell out of ’em.

L: What is one thing a guy who works with women should never do?

P: Don’t disrespect women. Treat them like you would treat your mother, with the utmost respect. Make sure they are always as comfortable as possible. In my business, just because a model gets naked does not mean they are looking to hook up. Be professional and stop looking at things as an opportunity for sex. That’s arrogant, and that’s fuckin’ amateur 🙂

L: Where do you want to be a year from now?

P: I would like to have a solid known brand with representation in more high profile galleries.

L: Do you give lessons? Sell books? Photos? What do you offer your fans?

P: I have various tutorials on http://www.youtube.com/roustanbodypaint as well as a tutorial dvd/digital download available at http://www.roustanbodypaint.com/dvd.

My hardcover book, a compendium of 10 years of my work can be found at http://www.BodyArt.ninja

I sell various limited edition prints. but, they are generally available at live shows. Sometimes they are made available on my instagram @roustan. That’s currently the best place to see all my latest stuff. I can always be emailed for info about specific images paulroustan@gmail.com

Playboy: #NakedIsNormal

Playboy went back to it's roots and put tasteful nudes back in the magazine after a year without them.Playboy is close to my heart.  For those of you who aren’t aware and may not have read my About page,  I used to model for Playboy.  It was actually the reason I moved to California years ago. Although I was never a centerfold, I had many years of fun being a Playboy model.

I learned a lot about beautiful girls. The inner story of how they really felt about who they are, how they feel, what they want, the men who made their hearts beat, and the men they were chasing away.

While I was in the planning stages with Girls Unedited, Playboy decided to remove nudity from their magazine. Their March 2016 issue was their first non-nude magazine.

I thought this turnaround would be a great blog topic, whether it was good or bad.  Had I launched Girls Unedited sooner, I wanted the topic to be one of my first blog posts.  If you didn’t hear, they decided to go back to nudes.  So ironic!  Now, when I actually launched Girls Unedited, Playboy is back to nudity.

In Fortune magazine, Cooper Hefner, the Chief Creative Officer said “It was a mistake to remove nudity from the magazine.”  Cooper, the son of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, said “Nudity was never a problem because nudity isn’t a problem. Today we are taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are.”

In another statement, Cooper admitted the way Playboy had portrayed nudity was dated.  I agree: naked is normal.  The female body is sensual and real. Nudity isn’t dirty unless the context is.

I bought the new March/April 2017 edition of Playboy’s “Nude is Normal” issue with the stunning Elizabeth Elam on the cover. In reclaiming their identity, I give Cooper Hefner a Hi-5! As a professional photographer by trade, I think the magazine portrays incredible artistic shots of beautiful women and photography. It’s nice to see Playboy back to its roots.
